We serve two small villages: Feckenham and Bradley Green, however we also have pupils from other, larger areas of Redditch. The large majority of our pupils come from White British backgrounds and our deprivation levels are well below the national average. Recently we converted to an academy and joined the Shires Multi Academy Trust with Webheath Academy Primary and Studley High School. At Finstall First School, we aim to provide a broad, balanced, relevant curriculum that meets the unique and varied needs of our pupils and enables all children to attain and achieve well in all subject areas in the National Curriculum. The teaching of Reading has a very high priority, as Reading is at the heart of learning, and we also aim to prepare children for life by developing their character. We provide a well-sequenced, progressive curriculum and although we teach each subject area separately, where appropriate we do make links between subjects to make learning relevant to pupils. Our curriculum is enriched by purposeful, relevant additional activities that bring learning to life and make learning engaging, enjoyable and memorable for pupils. By making strong, caring, relationships with pupils and parents, our School is a happy, safe place for everybody and we expect the highest standards of work and behaviour from our pupils, who perform extremely well when compared with other children in Nationally recognised assessments. They also achieve high quality outcomes across all year groups in all subjects and, when they leave School at the end of Year 4, our pupils are confident, independent learners, who are well prepared for life in Modern Britain and they continue to do well in the next stage of their education. As a result, we enjoy an excellent reputation in the area and feel proud of our pupils’ achievements. Mr M Mason Head Teacher The children learnt the commands that would have been given to Roman soldiers and tried out some of the tactics, including the turtle formation.
